Out of Office
There are so many reasons we love the Finger Lakes, and when Brian and I got the chance to be "out of office" this past Monday (a rare day off together when both the restaurant and shop were closed for the holiday) we took advantage of it.
Soaking up some sun, sipping on some Dry Riesling and taking in some of the most stunning views on Seneca Lake from Hillick & Hobbs Estate is how we spent our afternoon. We got to see our friend, and winemaker, Lynne and meeting her delightful colleague, Rick was just the cherry on top. Rick was the kind of person whose energy you could feel across the room— he was bright, smiling and so excited to share these beautiful wines and this beautiful place with every guest who came through the door.
The weather was a perfect 75 degrees, sunny, slight breeze and we watched some sailboats on the lake. Brian enjoyed a class of the 2023 Estate Dry Riesling, a bit lighter in body and more mineral-driven on the palate than the 2021 I sipped on, with ripe, concentrated fruit. Both were dry, fresh, and just what you want from a Finger Lakes Riesling on this fine day.
The people, the lakes, the vineyards, the delicious wine all make up the landscape of this region. It's vast, it's beautiful and it is not to be underestimated. Yesterday was a simple reminder of just how lucky we are to live here. We hope that you can experience it for yourself, whether you're local or just passing through.
