Located in the Obermosel, just across the river from Luxembourg, Stephan Steinmetz is the 6th generation to farm this under-sung region. Planted by the Romans in this part of Germany, Elbling was once a dominant grape here, but fewer than 600 hectares remain almost all of which are in the Mosel. As the seashell on the label suggests, this wine is from Kimmeridgian Limestone filled with fossilized shells. Truly a wine to be drunk as water, bright, fresh acidity, crushed chalk mineral, and white flowers and only 10% alcohol, buy a few bottles to keep in the fridge!
