Starting small in the early 1980's and remaining small, La Due Terre is a family affair, with Flavio Basilicata, Silvana Forte and their daughter, Cora as the only employees, just bringing in help for harvest and pruning. With 4 hectares of vineyards, they are able to control everything closely and are considered a benchmark producer by their neighbors in Friuli. This is an equal parts blend of Refosco and Schioppettino that ferments in concrete and is then aged in old barrique. The wine is filled with earthy black pepper, dark ripe fruit and well integrated oak with a little funk to let you know it's real.
