Giacomo Conterno founded his eponymous winery in 1900, first bottling labeled wines in 1924. Even in the 1930's when most Barolo was sold off in bulk, the wines of Giacomo Conterno were recognized for quality, then known as Monfortino, bypassing the Barolo designation all together. Growing slowly and acquiring only vineyard sites with great potential, Giacomo's grandson Roberto purchased their plot of Cerretta in Serralunga d'Alba in 2010. Cerretta is planted on clay and limestone, lending significant structure to the wines. Black cherry, spice, lavender and dried herbs are some of the many notes this wine offers over time in the glass.
