Like most port houses, they sold their fruit and\/or wine to major shippers to be exported but decided to bottle their wines under their own label in the 1970's, the first to do so. In 1986, they were finally allowed to export their product when Portugal joined the EU, and the rest is history. They are known for fermenting the base wine longer, reducing the need for brandy and also making the wines slightly less sweet than most ports. The fruit for this was hand harvested and fermented partially destemmed before spending 10 years in various types of oak vessels. Classic Tawny, lots of nutty, toffee and dried orchard fruit.
